Sculptor Dale Chihuly replicas made from recycled materials by Students at Cherry Valley and McGuffey Elementary Schools in Newark, are on display at the Newark Public Library.
Cherry Valley Students made an orange chandelier that's hanging in the stairwell as you head down to the kids level from the main floor. First Grader Grace Frye says she made the yellow flower pictured in the middle.
McGuffey students made a blue column that stands in a corner to the left as soon as you enter the kids section on the lower level.
Both pieces of art are made out of colored water bottles, plastic cups, and other items as part of an Earth Day project.
Grace has been talking about this project for a while. At first, I was just impressed that she knew about Chihuly, especially since Molly has experience as a glass blower.
Then when I saw these two displays, I was blown away by how cool these pieces of art look and that elementary school kids made them. Bravo Newark City Schools!
