$1,000 Reward Offered on Jewel Thieves

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for anyone that has information that will help law enforcement with the investigation of a theft at a downtown Newark jewelry store.

The Newark Police Department reports around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, two suspects stole loose diamonds valued at $10,600 from an unlocked jewelry case at HL Art Jewelers. A store employee observed the theft and called 911 and the two suspects left the store. Witnesses say they drove off in a car described as a gray Pontiac that was possibly a Bonneville and newer than 2000. The rear license plate was bent down and unreadable.

Both suspects are described as light skinned black males between 40-50 years old, well dressed, and wearing glasses. The first suspect is described as six-feet tall, weighing 200-220 pounds, with short hair and a bald spot on top. The second suspect is described as 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 tall, weighing 240-250 pounds, with a buzz cut.

Police say the suspects may not be from the Newark area, and a similar theft occurred in August at Pugh’s Jewelry store in Zanesville.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call the Licking County Crime Stoppers at 740-349-6888 or 1-888-488-9058. A special coding system protects the identity of the caller but allows for the reward to be issued at a later time.

Crime Stoppers also takes calls from persons with information about any felony. Information leading to the arrest and indictment of a felony suspect could qualify the caller for a reward as determined by the Crime Stoppers’ Board. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization. Reward money comes from private individuals, businesses, and foundations that see Crime Stoppers as an integral tool in the community’s fight against crime. Tax-deductible donations can be sent to: Licking County Crime Stoppers, Inc., P.O. Box 304, Newark, OH 43058-0304.
